More than Theme Parks

You don't have to pack your Disney vacation with harried trips to the parks to wait in long lines. Disney offers so much to do for adults, without ever stepping foot in the parks. Last Summer, my husband and I stayed at a Disney hotel for a weekend for our anniversary. It was our goal to do something at every hotel before the weekend was over. Here are some recommended activities that we found.
1. Take a morning bike ride at the Caribbean Beach Resort. There are bikes available for rent for a half-hour or a full hour. The trail around the lake is beautiful, and includes a short wooden bridge nature trail. When your done exercising, relax for a while in a hammock on the beach.
2. Rent a boat at any resort on a lake. Disney offers all kinds of boat rentals, including pedal boats, mini-power boats, canoes, and sailboats. Or, you can take a free ride on one of Disney's boats, from Epcot to the Boardwalk, or from Dixie Landings to Downtown Disney.
3. Pack a picnic basket and have a progressive dinner at the resorts connected by monorail: Contemporary, Polynesian, and Grand Floridian. All of them have beach side picnic spots -- hammocks, lounge chairs, tables, swings, or docks -- that offer a beautiful view.
4. Try your skill at one of the video arcades. Almost every hotel has one, but the Contemporary has the largest selection of games. Most video arcades are next to a snack bar or ice cream shop, so you can play up an appetite.
5. Watch the evening fireworks from just about anywhere. The best options are the top of the contemporary and the beach area at the Yacht and Beach Club.
Disney also offers fishing, tennis, spas, golf, surfing, parasailing, and fitness clubs. As you can see, it's easy to mix in some recreation and relaxation with your trips to the actual theme parks.
