WARNING.......Can be hazardous to your health by katlynn58 | Nov 8, 2000 When my Grandmother was 61 years of age she decided to travel by Greyhound to visit her older brother a mere 75 miles away. My mother and her sister and brother had bought her a car a few months earlier but she felt safer on the bus riding as...Return to opinion

Quite a Narrative (Reply to this comment)
by radioguy
This was just going on, and I just figured it was a run-of-the-mill story, then BANG!
Quite a shocker. My condolences to you and your family.
Before my mother had a driver's license, we often traveled by bus. Fortunately, there were no untoward incidents such as this. In fact, once I got over the stage of my life where I always got motion sickness from the movement of the bus and the diesel fumes, I began to enjoy bus travel.
One of my best memories ever is a camping trip we took by bus to Vermont. That was fun.
Remember, in L.A. people get shot for looking the wrong way at other drivers, so there's really no place in America beyond the reach of crazy people with guns.

I do agree it can happen in various types of travel..but would others be quite so cold and lose the driver and pay off the other passengers?....just wonder ..???...Kat

on a plane, a train, a subway, a sidewalk, an elevator, on a freeway.... it's not the mode of transportation at fault, it's a sad comment on society and the way we care for the mentally ill, and the criminally insane, or merely the criminal.

Thanks for commenting on my "how I rate" review. I'm not sure why I rated this one R before, but upon re-reading, I decided to change my rating.

OMG! (Reply to this comment)

That's horrible! I'm so sorry you lost your grandmother in such a needless, senseless way!!! I can't help but think how sad it is that in today's society our answer to protecting ourselves is to add metal detectors. We throw the mentally ill out of hospitals because we don't want to pay for them and wonder why these things happen. Sorry I'm ranting!

It's not just hazardous to your health, it is absolutely life-threatening! I am so sorry for your loss. This is the kind of thing nobody thinks will happen to them, but a warning is definitely needed.

about your grandmother... That is terrible. I rode on greyhound several times when I was young and in the army and it was all I could afford... Every time there were "weird, suspticious" people either on the same bus as me or in the bus stations (VERY scary places!)... In hindsight, I never realized (youth) that I was in as much danger as I was actually in... I know that as a parent, I would never allow my children to ride on a greyhound bus, even WITH me. Again, I am so sorry for your loss.
