International Student ID (a.k.a. ISC)

Jan 08 '01

The Good: The International Student Card (ISC)gets great discounts for nifty touristy things in Europe like castles and museums. Also it is a picture ID that is internationally recognized, I've even used mine in the States a few times.

The Bad: This ID is only good for one year, and once you're no longer a student you can't get it. However, like any other ID, fake ones are available via internet.

The Ugly: The most common picture put on it is your passport picture, which is in the same category as a driver's license picture, just plain BAD!!!!!

ISC is an easy way to save money while in Europe traveling for two weeks or more. Basically it proves that you are a student, thus making you eligible for student discounts! The cost for the card is $20 plus whatever it costs to get a passport photo taken. I got my card at a travel agency. This is mostly good for visiting castles and monuments. I saved about $5 visiting the Tower of London, $2 for the Eifel Tower, and about $3 at Heidelberg Castle. You also get the student discount for trains when traveling in between these countries.
For those who are graduating get the card before you get your diploma! Most university travel agencies require that you are a current or continuing student to obtain the card. I know, this sucks, but what can you do about technicalities.
