Weddings and Honeymoons at Disney World

Say Cheese:)

Aug 31 '00

My husband and I were married in our hometown at a courthouse because we had no money to have a big wedding. We had pictures taken that day, but we didn't have the normal wedding attire on, I had a flower dress on, Craig had just a shirt and tie.

A year after we were married, we decided to take the honeymoon we never got to take after our wedding. We picked Disney World, and plans were in motion. As we were planning our honeymoon, I mentioned to my husband "Wouldn't it be neat to have our wedding pictures taken in front of the Castle?." He agreed and we decided to see if it was even possible. We knew people got married there all the time on WDW Property, but just having Wedding pictures taken?

We investigated it to find it WAS possible!! We arranged the date and our photographer assured us on the phone that we would have them taken right in front of the castle in the Magic Kingdom before the Park opened!

I didn't have a wedding dress, so I went to the nearest Goodwill Store and bought a beautiful gown for $10! Hubby borrowed a tuxedo from a friend of ours who owned his own- everything was coming into place!

We carried the wedding attire on the plane with us, where they stored it in the front of the plane so they would not be wrinkled.

After a night at our hotel OFF grounds this trip, we asked where we could change. The photographer had arranged us to use a room free for the day, at the Contemporary Resort, to change in and enjoy for the morning.

The view from the Contemp was spectacular- the sun was rising over the top of "Spaceship Earth" at Epcot- we could see THAT far! We were in the tower of the hotel, about 4 floors from the top.

We changed and helped each other with zippers and such, it was so cool!
We had never seen each other in wedding attire before (that's a good thing) and Craig just stared at me standing there in my white, lace wedding dress. He looked incredibly handsome in his tuxedo.

We held each other's hands as we walked out of the hotel room, and I felt like Cinderella. Every Cast Memboer (Employee) stopped and stared. We got congratulations thrown at us from every angle- it felt so good. We felt like they were our guests at a big wedding we never had.

We stepped outside the Contemp Resort to wait for our photographer to pick us up to head to the Magic Kingdom. Previously, I had asked a Cast Member if any celebrities were staying at any of the Disney hotels and she said she wasn't able to divulge that information- hey, worth a try, right?

So, here we are in our wedding attire, talking away, when out walks Jack Wagner and his wife, Felicia. I about died! He was on Melrose Place at the time and my hubby's mom was a HUGE General Hospital fan! I just stared at them as they walked to their car. NOONE was around but us, them, and one cast member! As Jack was about to get in his car, I yelled. " I love you Jack!" Which he replied "Congratulations- we wish you all the best." I almost fainted! My hubby just stood there like "What just happened here?" They were at WDW for "Weddings of a Lifetime" show on the Lifetime channel. It was my first time seeing a celebrity ever, so I was all smiles for picture time:)

Rick, our photgrapher, picked us up in a van, so I would have enough room for my long train. He escorted us to one of the employee entrances to the Magic Kingdom and it was very cool to see the "behind-the-scenes" goings on in the morning. We got to walk up to the Castle, with noone in the park except Cast Members, and that was the most magical feeling of all.

We had several pictures and poses taken in front of the castle, next to the castle near one of the gardens, and then some on the walkway leading up to the inside of the Castle. They came out great!

I wanted to write about our experience for the simple fact that even if you can't or don't want to get married at WDW, you can always get your pictures taken there! We are complimented all the time about them, and it is a GREAT conversational piece!
