Downtown Disney, Free and Fun
May 14 '00
One way to have a great vacation while saving money is to do the free things that are also fun. One of these hidden places is Downtown Disney. It is located by many of the hotels and is easy to find. Just follow all of the signs and you can't miss it. Now why is Downtown Disney fun? Here are a few reasons.
1. Lego land. This was one of my favorite things to see and it was free. It is a store with so much more. From the name, it is the Lego store. It has a place for kids (and adults) to make things with Legos. I went around Christmas and you could make ornaments and they were hanging them up with name and ages on them. They were very cute. This is also a great place to take pictures. They have a man made completely of Legos sitting on a bench. He looks real, but that isn't the best part. If you sit next to him he starts to snore. It is great. They have dragons sitting in the water breathing smoke. It is just a fun place. Of course with kids you may have to purchase some Legos, rest assured they have all price ranges.
2. Stores. Although these may not save you any money this is the place to buy any goodies that you may want. Why you ask? Because your car is close by and you don't have to worry about breaking or having to carry your stuff around all day. It has everything in the park in these stores.
3. Paradise Island. This can be a free if you get there in time. They begin to charge people to come across the bridge around 6 (I think, but check before going). If you get here before that time then you can get over for free and stay on as long as you like. This is a place for adults who would like to party later in the night. They have many bars and fun things to do. If you go during the day they have some cute shops, but it is really a night place.
The last piece of advice I have is to buy a hopper ticket. Although up front it can be a lot of money it serves two main goals. One it never expires. My parents used one that was over 5 years old. This means if the price goes up between now and your next visit then you pay the old price. And two you can jump between parks. This was great for me because we got through 4 parks in 3 days. This saved us the price of a single ticket. Of course if you are only going to one park buy a one day ticket.
This can be a trip of a life time, but can be expensive. The last tip I have is to talk to people in line. Everyone has suggestion and you have nothing better to do. I got really good ideas on were to eat from people in line that was both great and not too expensive.
