The pilot died--
by linda1527 | Aug 21 '00
A man died last night-- the captain who was piloting the plane. Who would ever think this could happen? This is very rare indeed, but it did happen. It happened last night on a flight from Los Angeles, Flight 308, to Minneapolis when the captain...

I think I would have to turn on the television at some point in time to learn of the news events, especially from my area.

Earlier today I read something and thought it was about the airline and they did not touch on some things, then I looked at the heading, and it was airline horror stories, and that is what they wrote.

It is something to think about, so often we hear of delivering babies on planes and drunk passengers, this one is new to me.

. . . fragile.

While I do not suffer from undue anxiety, I try to live each day as if it were my last.

One of these days - it will be.

Hi JMK. You're absolutely right in what you say. I even felt a bit sheepish about writing this, like somehow I was being exploitive about the death of this man. That really wasn't my intent, but just wanted to alert everybody of this very rare incident.

I felt like I should have wrapped it up so to speak, and that is why I put the notation summary. This is under the category of flying horror stories and I thought this would be appropriate.

I'm going out of town tomorrow for a few days and when I return, I'll rethink whether I should delete this or not.

Thanks so much for your feedback.

...I rated this HR for your writing style and clarity (always strong points)...I think the reason for so many R's might be that you didn't wrap it up with a conclusion. Do you think Airline saftey has suffered in recent years? Is it improving or is the competition that generates lower and lower fares sacrificing safety? The Airlines and the NTSB say air travel has never been safer, but high profile cases like flight 800 and other disasters create a nagging image of danger.

In short, the one thing that mihgt be missing is a definite conclusion...but you did cover a specific airline disaster and that was the topic wasn't it?

My best regards,
JMK

This was a tragic situation indeed . . . (Reply to this comment)

much like the Alaska Airlines crash off the coast of California, John Kennedy Jr's tragic plane crash and John Denver's crach near San Francisco.

Sadly, no one can even fathom the pressures commercial airline pilots must go through. Yes, they are paid well over $130,000 or more a year but they have literally 400 peoples lives at his/her hands.

Depending upon where the heart attack occurs, most people can survive a heart attack.

This is why I am now an advocate of not letting your work take control over you. Relax and smell the roses. Does all that money really make you happy?
