Give Kids a Break

I am so sick and tired of hearing people complain about flying with kids. I have seen a number of opinions, even of this website, where people talk about how "horrible" it is to fly with kids. I even saw today on CNN's "Talk Back Live" where someone suggested having "Kid Free" flights.
Let me first say that I am a father of a wonderful one year old boy, AND I AM DARN PROUD OF IT! I have not yet had the opportunity to fly with him, although I hope that changes next year. Also, this review is not meant to demean anyone who does not have kids. No this is about what we expect of kids, and what we expect of ourselves.
I have flown many times over the years, and to many far away places. Usually on those flights, there has been at least one or two children. Now I am not saying that I have never seen kids act-up on flights, but far more often I have seen adults act like obnoxious jerks. On just about every flight I see adults trying to butt in line to get on and off of the plane. Last year when I flew to San Francisco of Southwest Airlines, I saw people bringing carry-on luggage that was bigger then the luggage that I checked to go in the belly of the plane. now that was just plane rude.
I am not trying to say I am perfect. I have probably done things on planes that were not right. What I am trying to say is lets put ourselves in the kids shoes. yes I agree kids always need to be taught to act right. However we need to realize that when we (adults) feel antsy, for whatever reason, kids feel it even more. Children do not have the attention span that adults have. Plus they have so much more energy that they need to burn. That is why I applaud airports like BWI in Baltimore for putting in play centers for kids. Finally before we start judging how other people act lets realize all we can really do is make sure we act right. When I was on the flight to San Francisco as much as I felt that those people were being rude by bringing on their huge luggage I know that there was nothing I could do about it, so all I did was just sit back and enjoy the flight.
