| ejjiii's Full Review: Harrah's Las Vegas |
I made my first ever trip to Las Vegas last week, and by luck of the draw, I decided to stay at Harrah’s. I picked Harrah’s because it was at the middle of all the casinos on Las Vegas Blvd., and I had been pleased with a past stay at Harrah’s at Lake Tahoe.
The price for a room with two double beds was $65 plus tax on Monday, and $70 plus tax on Tuesday. We did have a minor inconvenience after check-in. When we went up to our room, the room was clean but the beds were not made. The hotel quickly rectified the situation as they sent someone up to bring us to a new room. After that, we had no more problems.
One morning we had room service breakfast. The food was brought promptly, and was warm and tasty when it arrived. The price was reasonable, for hotel room service. The second day we just had coffee, but once again the service was very prompt.
The hotel employees were for the most part courteous and helpful. This was also true in the casino. The waitresses, bartenders, change people, and restaurant workers all were helpful when asked for help. Even the man who was at the counter at the sports book was patient with my neophyte questions regarding sports betting.
I played slots and video poker for most of my two-day stay. The machines seemed fairly loose, as I actually came out a few dollars ahead. I also watched the complimentary (with a $5 one drink minimum) Mac King comedy show, although Mac was not there. He was off for the birth of his daughter last week. The guy who filled in, “Uncle” Mike was very funny and talented.
The best thing about Harrah’s is its proximity to all the other casinos. I was particularly impressed with the Venetian, which was a couple of blocks away. You need to see this place to believe it! It really is an incredible building inside and out. I also caught a free outdoor Pirate show at Treasure Island (across from the Venetian), which was short but well worth seeing. I won’t give away the details. Just go see it.
Back to Harrah’s. You get a television set with about 10 channels, plus first run movies (and porn), which you pay per view. You also have an alarm clock radio, and sundry grooming items – including a blow drier. When leaving Harrah’s, you have the option of checking out via you room television set.
We ate dinner both nights at Harrah’s. The first night, we ate at the buffet, which was average. The food was ok; the selection mediocre, the price was middle of the road. The second night we ate at the second floor steak house, which was actually elegant, the food was superb, and the price a little steep – but worth it.
All in all, I had a wonderful time in Las Vegas, but I would consider Harrah’s a mixed bag. I would rate it 3 1/2 stars if I could. Harrah's is better than average, but pales in comparison to it's Las Vegas Blvd. neighbors.
