Magical for "kids" of all ages

I've been to Disney World three times. The first time was as a teenager, when "the World" was just The Magic Kingdom. The second time I went with my new husband, when Animal Kingdom was just a gleam in someone's eye. The most recent time was last year, with our 5 yr old daughter and 5 month old son in tow.
Having experienced this place at three different ages/stages of my life I feel pretty confident telling you it is a vacation destination that appeals to all ages. I fully expect to be going there when I'm old and gray and still having a blast!
Let me recommend some things from our most recent trip. First, stay onsite if at all possible. You CAN find cheaper accommodations offsite, but you will miss out on the ambiance of a Disney resort. You will also miss out on some perks, like free transportation to the parks (or free parking if you take a rental car), priority seating arrangements at various park and resort restaurants and my favorite perk of all - E NIGHT!
If you stay onsite and there is an E-night scheduled during your stay, don't even think of not going! On e-night folks who are Disney guests get the opportunity to stay in the Magic Kingdom after the park closes to the general public. They limit the number of people and there are NO LINES! And it is just so neat to see the park practically deserted.
Go to at least one character meal. It is so much fun, especially if you have little ones. The characters will come around to your table while you are eating and sign autographs and interact with you and your kids. There are many character meals to choose from and priority seating is recommended because they are so popular.
Go in the "off season" We went in October. The weather is generally nice, not as hot as summer. The crowds are smaller (and therefore the lines are shorter). If you have to take the kids out of school, DO IT. They will not miss so much in one week that they can't catch up and the memories of such a family vacation will be with them for a lifetime.
