Flying with a baby
Aug 08 '00
Living in San Francisco and my parents being in Munich, Germany, I always fly direct with Lufthansa. It's the only airline which offers this direct flight. Having taken this flight numerous times now with my baby, I have to say that I have been very much at ease with their service and helpfulness.
For every flight I have been able to book a seat in advance and received a bassinet. I have managed to switch seats with other people so that I'd have an extra free seat next to me, I have received baby meals, diapers, toys, etc. without asking for them, I have always had helpful flight attendants who, so far have been very understanding of the situation I'm in.
Flying is really not such a big deal with the kids...there are some tricks:
- have a new toy, which you can present on the flight...this will keep the child entertained for a while
- let them run around...usually people don't mind, the ones who DO mind are sitting in Business Class!
- try to pick a flight time where the child would be sleeping anyway
- know what you're getting in to and be ready for a little bit of stress...then it's easier!
