Let me tell you the experience that I had using Priceline.com. The horror story. Now, it may work out for some people. I have a friend in Chicago, who got great tickets for the times he hoped for, but that was all by chance, I assure you. Here's the scoop...
I wanted to surprise my mother for her birthday by flying to see her from my home in Tampa to her home in Bloomington, IL. I wanted to leave early on Fri. and fly back late on Mon. That would give me basically 4 almost full days to spend with her. I applied for tickets. No airline would accept my offer into Bloomington, so I said that I would just fly into Chicago thinking that I would take the train from there. Its only a 2 hour train trip, so I would still have plenty of time with her. WELL, they accepted my offer $125 - a great deal for tickets. When the confirmation came, though, the times (which you are not able to select on Priceline.com) were ridiculous. I flew into Chicago at 10:30PM on Fri. and left at 10:10AM on Monday. This cut my trip down to two days not to mention that the trains don't run that late or that early from Bloomington to Chicago. I called Delta to see if I could switch the tickets, and they told me that I had to call Priceline. Well, I did, and what was the response, you ask? NOPE! "There is nothing we can do for you." Stuck with crummy tickets that I couldn't use. I ended up having to leave from Bloomington on Sunday at 5PM, because that was the latest train running from Bloomington to Chicago cutting my visit down to one day. Not to mention that after I was roped into the tickets, I found plenty tickets directly into Bloomington that were a much better deal and at the times I wanted. Thanks Priceline.com.
