Free Ticket In No Time

Jun 24 '00

I used to be frequent flier miles junkie, but soon discovered my arch enemy: expiration dates (and black out periods). Now, it seemed, as I was earning miles, and never quite fulfilling my goal, those same miles were expiring at the same time. Here's what I discovered to maximize your free, or almost free, travel:

1/ Online Incentives - There are many sites out there, such as clickrewards.com, where if you shop online, you can earn points which can be converted into the frequent flier miles program of your choice. The newest and most intriguing new program is webmiles.com. With webmiles.com, you earn points by shopping with various online stores (toys r us etc) accessed through their site. Once you have accumulated enough points, they can be used for discounts on flights or free travel. There point requirements are almost similar to most airline programs. The major plus is that there are NO BLACKOUT DATES, since your tickets (on major airlines) are booked through them, though the points still have expiration dates. The other great thing with this program is that you can still earn frequent flier miles with you free ticket, since you book you award travel through them.

2/ Frequent Flier Mile Credit Cards - Another great way to earn miles if you have one of these programs attached to your credit card (some of the online credit cards also offer incentive programs like this). If you do shop online and are also a part of one of the online incentive programs, these is any easy way to get double, or more, points than you would have gotten. But before you rush out and get one of these credit cards, please read all the fine print, because some of these cards have higher interest rates and/or annual fees.

3/ Buying Miles - Sadly, this is my last point, but I do feel that I've given you enough info. When I mention buying miles, I envision a bunch of you making strange faces. Surprise, surprise, many airlines frequent flier programs offer the opportunity to purchase extra miles if you are short of the reward needed for a ticket. Most airlines have a limit as to how many you can buy, but since they're only a few cents each, it can be great way to get that ticket you need, if only to spend a few bucks. So, if you're 500 miles away from you free ticket to Bali, and you really need to go there next week, and each mile only costs $0.10 each, that's only $50.00, and a pretty cheap ticket I might add.

Well, I hope my little bit information has enlightened you to some of the ways of getting free travel sooner, rather than later, after all you miles have expired.
