Pre travel penality waivers and/or during travel insurance? There is a difference

What are the differences?
Pre Travel Penalty Waivers/Cancellation Waivers- Usually allows you to cancel for absolutely any reason up until the the day before travel, sometimes two hours prior to flight travel. Depending on the company, usually its a full refund or vouchers good for 1 year for future use. The waiver amount is usually $30-70 per person depending where you travel. The waiver amount is non refundable. If you choose not to purchase the waiver at time of deposit, then you are subject to policies and penalties for cancellation of the company. Sometimes it is very steep. Some vacation packages are totally non refundable at time of purchase, especially around holidays or special events.
Air/hotel vs cruise travel have different kinds of coverage. Ask questions, and "what if" scenerios. Ask for examples and get answers pertaining to what is offered. If not offered, ask for it, get information and explanations and how much it is before you make payment. If you have a credit card, research to see if your credit card company includes some type of travel coverage, most do. Usually during travel insurance.
During travel Insurance/Post Departure- This is protection while you are traveling. For example, it is good from time you step foot on the plane, through the duration of your travel package. This is for medical reasons, sickness, sometimes baggage loss, immediate family. Pre existing conditions are usually not covered. This is a strict coverage. This one can not be for any reason.
Does is sound confusing? I think it does. I do recommend the pre travel waiver though. It has saved many people their money back due to unforseen circumstances, illness, break-ups, etc. Hope I helped you!
