Priceline.com is the way to go for hotels
Jan 14 '00
I have used Priceline.com twice for hotel reservations. Both times I have been very, very pleased.
My first request was for one night in Raleigh when we just could not seem to find a room for under $75.00. I got a room at the Shearton for $50.00.
My second request was for a room for two nights in Houston, TX. Wow is all I can say to what I got for $40.00. We got a room at the Westin Galleria in downtown Houston. It was connected to the Galleria mall which is anchored by Macy, Sak's, Neiman Marcus and Lord & Taylor. Being from a small town and never having been to a big city I was wowed. The hotel was gorgeous. The rate listed on the back of the door for a family of three was $225 per night.
Priceline is easy to use. I feel like I have enough control over my request to get what I want. By allowing the user to designate the part of town and the level of luxury for the hotel I feel like I am not going to get stuck in a dump.
Check-in was easy at both hotels (even though I felt out of place at the Westin). Both trips went smoothly.
Priceline also sends you e-mails with special offers after you utilize their offer. Right now they are offering users bonus certificates worth an additional $25 on their requests. So if you offer $40 the hotel gets $65 ( the extra $25 being from Priceline).
The only negative I can think of is the fact that you are entering a binding deal. I always do my request the day before I go so I am 99% sure I am still going.
