Disney On A Budget

don't spend your money eating and drinking!

Disney World has become so large now that it is rather overwhelming. Just as the park is overwhelming, the cup of information I have to share is overflowing, so I will start with eating and drinking.

First off, the food and drinks in the park are incredibly expensive. I'd advise that you bring snacks if at all possible, and especially if you are a true blue vegetarian. Disney has gotten better about vegan eating, but the picking is still rather slim and again, pricey. Also, bottled water (and trust me, you will need it, especially in the summer heat) and soda run around the $3 mark. That can add up. Again, I suggest bringing a little cooler with you. FYI, I went to Wal-Mart and purchased a good size one for around $10.

If you stay on Disney property, you can purchase a plastic refillable cup for under $10. This is refillable your entire stay (although I have known people to bring back the cup the following year and no one seems to care.), but only on Disney Hotel properties, NOT at the parks. It is a decent sized mug, and if you don't mind carrying it with you at the park, it is probably enough for most people for one day at the park. (still bring water though!)

Also, when you eat at the park, you may want to make lunch your big meal of the day. The prices are better than dinner prices by far (at least a few dollars), and the portions are huge. I highly recommend the Sci Fi restaurant in MGM Studios. It is like visiting a drive in movie theatre. You even sit in cars while you eat your meal. The ambiance is nice, and the food is great. They make a MEAN shake. Of course, if you can wait, restaurant prices outside of Disney will be a bit more reasonable.

Oh, and just an FYI, for those who like Chinese food, you won't find it to be as cheap as certain places like New York City. A meal will run you around $10 (where you can get great buys in NYC for around $7). Then again, there is always a McDonalds value meal. UH!
