Slovenia - a little treasure
Apr 18 '00
Last year in June me and five friends of mine(all students) went to Slovenia - part of the former Yugoslavia. It is small but beautiful. In one day you can go from the capital Ljubljana to the sea and to the mountains. We stood one day in Ljubljana and I have to say that it`s a rather small but for this reason also a nice city. We had no problems with the public transport nor we had with the people. They`re very hospitable and almost everyone (especially the young) speaks English.
We visited the caves of Postojnska jama and I was very impressed.
Also worth visiting are:
Bled - a lake with an island. There is a church on it with a bell of wishes. You can hire a boat to reach it.
Bohinj - also a lake but more "natural" - with a splendid view on the mountains
All the littoral - although the Slovenian sea is small, it is worth to visit the villages Piran, Izola and Portorož
The food is very mixed - little of Italian, Hungarian, Austrian and Slovenian tradition - but all is good!
There are also a lot of possibilities to do sport: rafting (on the beautiful emerald Soča), kayaking, cycling, mountaineering...
