OK, I admit it, I laughed. But once I got over the humor of the ad I asked myself, "Self..." (no, really, I didn't say that...) I asked, "What was that an ad for? Is this a minivan bashing commercial?" The idea that this was an Epinions commercial would NOT have stuck with me if I had not already been an Epinions addict.
The overall commercial is humorous and gets the point across that opinions are important and need to be listened to - not only by consumers but by manufacturers as well. However, my gripes are these (and coincide with other reviewers): the van is OLD, squeaks and rattles a bad van do not make, and stating that she went back to the dealer 15 times is not necessarily the fault of the van, but could be the fault of the particular dealer she frequents. (Plus, if she is passe enough to give her minivan away, I'd question just how closely she maintained the vehicle in the first place.)
I am glad to see that Epinions is becoming large enough to advertise on TV. It's a great thing when people can help one another and share their knowledge. I simply hope that the true purpose of Epinions is portrayed in a commercial sometime soon rather than the cheap humor and product bashing (or should I say 'shooting' in one case...) used thus far.
