I first want to say; I have watched all the TV commercial ads. In fact, I watched them several times. I wanted to make sure I knew what each one was saying and what the person reviewing was getting at. After watching all of them, I have to say the one I feel is the best for Epinions is The Tent ad.
The reasons for my feelings is this:
One: It is people friendly. This will catch the attention of Men, Women, and Kids. It will catch the attention of individuals who love the outdoors, who love trucks. I can hear wives now, saying "Honey, come look at this". Look what this crazy guy is doing. I know I would be saying this if I saw a guy going through a car wash with a tent on the bed of his truck. To top it all off, I wouldn't be afraid that my child would see this and wonder what they were seeing.
Two: This commercial was very clear and precise about what was being reviewed. We knew right from the start that this tent was being put to the test. Rick was very clear in what this tent could withstand, and what he felt it couldn't. We didn't get sidetracked with a Pizza Man or a cat; we just dealt with a man explaining what his tent could tolerate. At the end, without a doubt, this was a commercial for Epinions.com. We didn't hear this once, we heard this three times! This is what we were left with. No doubt in my mind what the commercial was for. This is a major plus. Let's face it, there are tons of ads out there that we are left wondering, "what was that for?"
Three: Rick was very thorough, I feel, about describing his tent. He pointed out that it has excellent sewing when he looks at the seams. We knew he had experience with this tent as he pointed this out. He took it to Colorado, he told us that the aluminum poles hold up well and he told us he has spent many rainy nights in this tent. I don't doubt him a bit, as he felt this tent could withstand all the water and pressure a car wash puts out. Some cars, it seems, can't even take a car wash this well.
Fourth and final reason: Rick focused on both the good and the bad. He told us all the good points (the rain, the sewing, the sturdy poles) but he also pointed out he didn't think this would hold up to a lot of snow. When he says this, I picture a major avalanche. Maybe he could borrow the snowboard from Jeff's Alta review--another must see for its humor, that one had me rolling.
I have to admit that there is one place in the tent ad that left me guessing as to whether Rick was saying anything or not. We saw him sitting in his tent, but the sound of the car wash kind of muffled his voice.
All and all, this was enough to sell me on the tent and to get me interested in Epinions. If I hadn't been a part of Epinions already, I would definitely take a look. It was very intriguing and very different from most of the other ads for web sites. I think Rick did the best job of reviewing not only Epinions but also what Epinions is all about. Going through some crazy stuff to prove to the world that this is why we have this (E)opinion in the first place.
I say way to go Rick!
