I am a wife, a teacher of middle school students (social studies and language arts) and a mother of two grown children. There have been times in my life when the list of my life priorities may have been different, but that's the way my life is now. Almost always a wife first (30 years worth) but my son and daughter are in their twenties now so they are generally independent. My family has always been important to me and it's a good thing because my extended family is huge.
I also am lucky because I happen to have a profession that I love, so I am content. Middle school age children may not be the easiest to live with, but they are at an interesting and enjoying age to teach.
I love the epinions format and the chance to have a say about the products that come into our lives on a daily basis. It's much more rewarding to share opinions with others that care about giving honest help with matters that concern us all. I think we all do this with the people we live and work with, but this expands the help that we can give. Please be assured that I give my honest opinion, good and bad, about the products I review.
HOW I RATE REVIEWS:
NH:
I will only rate a review with NH if the review is blatant spam or reviews that repeat words to fill in spaces. Plagiarism also falls into this rating classification.
SH:
Somewhat helpful means that the review had meaning but gave no support statements or facts about the subject. It may clearly take a position about the product but does not give details about why they are or aren't recommending it to the reader. A review in this category leaves me wondering if they have or haven't experienced the product reviewed. Unusual brevity usually falls into this rating because the details needed are lacking.
R:
Helpful is used by me if the review demonstrates knowledge or experience with the product; has some detail, but I still have a few questions unanswered when I'm finished reading the review. Or, I may be somewhat confused by the writing style's lack of structure and therefore do not understand completely parts of the review. A great review with numerous mechanical errors will fall into this category because I may recommend the content but I may feel that consumers will have a problem trusting the opinion of someone who doesn't present themselves as positively as possible.
VH:
Most of my ratings fall into the VH category. I find that people writing reviews on Epinions put a lot of thought and time into writing their reviews - and it shows. To get an HR I look for well structured and informative writing. When finished reading an HR I know about the product and understand all that has been shared. There may be a few mechanical errors, but they do not interfere with the overall quality of the review. The review is neither too long nor too short but has contributed to my decision making about the product. I may even have been entertained while I learned. The main thing is that I feel informed enough to know what the product is; how it is or could be used; what comes with it; the experiences of someone who has used it; and can decide based on the information given if I do or do not want to purchase, rent, or have the same experience.
