About Rather_Ripped
long, long, loooooong before the Sonic Youth album of the same name...almost 30 years before to be inexact...before frozen yogurt, before Wham! or Frankie Goes To Hollywood or Duran Duran...before even R.E.M. or CDs or cassette Walkman... there was a record store in the woodsy wilds of Berkeley, California, called Rather Ripped Records. blasting out the vinyl of The Residents, The Weirdos, John Cooper Clark, Joy Division, The Psychedelic Furs [before they became a disco act] and the Dead Kennedys, they were an island in a sea of crap like Journey, etc. sadly replaced by some greasy fast food joint or other in the 80's, they will nonetheless live on as the birthplace of my musical taste. the next time you spin an early Mothers of Invention LP, or perhaps weep over a homemade mixtape of bands like the Dils, the Nuns, Pink Section and Pointed Sticks, raise your glass of non-alcoholic beer on high and salute the genesis (and revelation) of...Rather_Ripped.
