Special Thanks To Those Who Take The Time To Comment On My Reviews!!!
The comments are the thing I enjoy the most here at Epinions! That's how I've made friends, and gotten to know people. That's what's encouraged me to feel my writing is fun and helpful. That's actually the primary reason I continue to write here, though I don't write as often as I'd prefer. I thank you so much for the time you spend writing those comments!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Acting on the advice of a senior Epinionator, this is my humble attempt at a profile page. Someday perhaps I can add some "glitz", but I am currently HTML illiterate.
I've placed 'How I Rate Reviews' before the "autobiography", because I suspect that will be of the most interest. Well actually, I'd be surprised if any of this is of interest at all. Yet, I know I've enjoyed reading profile pages of others, so here it is.
How I Rate Reviews
First, I'm an Epinions 'part-timer', so how I rate reviews won't really matter a great deal. That said, here's my approach for the bit of rating/reading I do manage.
My intent will be to always leave an explanatory comment if I leave a lower than 'Helpful' rating; unless the only issues I see have been covered by earlier comments.
Though I am a writer, and have a technical writing background, I do not lower ratings for spelling, grammer, etc.., as long as I can weave my way through the piece.
Some rate that way, and I understand; and don't blame them a bit. Certainly, it is a courtesy to readers to make reviews as easy to read as possible.
I, however, "play" at Epinions, and don't plan to subject the reviews I write to the same criteria I normally would before submitting for publication.
My writing is casual, and chock full of grammatical errors. This whole experience for me is meant to be lighthearted and fun.
Should that cease to be the case; then why would I continue to participate? I'm not altruistic enough to continue to educate consumers for free if it distresses me!
Thus, I don't anticipate acting like an editor as I read reviews. When I come across a review that's truly OT or offensive, I may rate it as such; or I may just not read that author anymore.
When someone seems to be trying, and just needs some help with style or format; I hope to be helpful. Though I've written for years, I've always needed an editor before publication. I don't use one at Epinions, (obviously!) and don't expect anyone else to, either.
If someone doesn't care enough to at least read one "VH" review to see how it's done before posting; and primarily uses this format to rant, (outside of the 'Writer's Corner!), I'll slap a lower rating on the review.
Other than that, I toss my "VH's" around pretty freely, without apology.
Now, "About Me"
Forget anything profound. Let me introduce myself by admitting Im a cleaning gizmo addict. I would be truly embarrassed if you could see how many cleaning products/gizmos/gadgets I actually own!
I suspect I collect these gizmos because;
1. I hate to clean.
2. I have 6 kids to clean up after. (No, I didn't give birth to them all! We "blended" his, mine, and...decided an even half dozen was enough!). ;)
3. I have a moderate desire for a clean house.
4. I desire new gadgets to alleviate the boredom of cleaning.
The end results are;
1. I then find myself forced to actually clean to justify the purchase of my latest cleaning gizmo.
2. I then make every attempt to entice the product to work as promised, so I wont feel Ive made a foolish purchase.
On very rare occasions, Im successful with this endeavor.
For these reasons, I hope to be able to provide a few helpful reviews in this category.
The second category will be beauty products. I have a vast collection of creams/potions/gadgets/gizmos that do not work.
I have a few that do, even for this middle-aged mom!
Also, I like to excercise, and have acquired more than a few fitness products. As with the former items, a few were worthwhile purchases. Not surprisingly, some were not!
Finally, I love to do crafts. I hope someday there's a category for craft products!!! Could I ever do some reviews there!
If I can contribute just a fraction of the benefit I've received from this site during the last 2 years I've used it purely a consumer, that will be great!
If you read this far, Bless You! I'm amazed! I thought I'd wasted my time by putting all this info on a profile page! Thanks for reading!
My Best to You!
Becky
