About asala
|
My name is Jason Asala, and I'm a teacher is Oak Creek, Wisconsin. I am also a writer and illustrator, primarily in comic books, but I dabble in novels, along with about two hundred million would-be authors. I have two beautiful daughters, Regan and Miranda, along with a fantastic wife, Amy. My wife also teaches (we both teach 5th grade), and we love the job to a great extent. As a matter of fact, I was a full-time writer/illustrator and found my way into the classroom only after I married a teacher and switched to a dual career of sorts. I don't do a lot of comic work or writing during the school year, but then I switch full time to writing and illustrating for the summer. It's a great gig.
For Epinions I'm trying to focus primarily in young adult books and comic graphic novels. I'd say at least half of my reviews will be from those categories - the other from more eclectic areas due to my ever-shifting reading moods and tastes.
I have a website, www.thehouseofusher.com, which showcases a lot of the work I do outside of teaching. Stop by if you have a chance.
I'm an avid adventurer - be in in the wild or wherever. I like taking on new challenges and immersing myself in new roles. I had a wonderful half-hour long conversation with an Indian neighbor, even though he doesn't speak English and I don't speak Hindi. Those kinds of situations are ones I relish, and, unfortunately, too many people avoid.
I'll try giving straightforward reviews, and they'll tend to be longer than shorter, since I want to share some of the minutia of why I like or don't like a particular work. Often, the quality of books and movies are decided by little things, I've discovered.
I love open dialog, and I welcome any and all comments to my reviews. I'll try to accommodate requests, if any.
If you have anything negative to say about my reviews, go right ahead and say it, but try being a little more clever than "hey, Asala, you suck." I appreciate clever repartee.
