About ASourdough4
|
A sourdough is a person born in Alaska Territory; named for the starter dough carried on the trail during the 1898 Gold Rush.
My e-Mail program blew up and took every address I had with it. Starting over again with a NEW address, looks a lot like the old one.
Asourdough4 lived for a few years in the Territorial Capital of Juneau, where he was born. Juneau was named for the fellow called Joe; who found a trace of color in what was later called Gold Creek. During the week between Christmas 1943 and New Years day 1944, he was taken to a district of Los Angeles near the L.A. County Dump, called Venice, where he grew up and became a straight A student at the local High School.
One day, he had noticed that a girl in his grade was getting a lot of attention by earning straight A grades. Resolving to do that too, he did. At our 30th year Reunion I saw that she was wearing a diamond large enough to require a sling to ease the discomfort. Her father had been a plumber.
There came the unavoidable Graduation and 30 months active duty in the U.S. Navy. While there, he learned something about Electronics; which subject has never ceased to interest him. He began civilian life with a small superhetrodyne AM radio assembled from a kit and $250 or so to live on. It proved to be an inadequate preparation for life.
Taking pity on unsuspecting readers; the fellow has decided to spare the audience more agony by skipping ahead a half century; which brings us to the (as yet) undistinguished present.
