My first name is Don and I have lived in Canada all my life. My father was born in the USA and continues to have dual citizenship. I was raised in Western Canada and grew up valuing the wonders of nature, the joys of exploring and knowing the value of being alive. I have had 3 close calls with death during my fifty plus years and it’s made me appreciate every minute of life.
I have 3 children, all grown and living their lives to the best of their abilities. My wonderful wife and I have two golden retrievers (brother and sister). I believe they are -Gods Angels on Earth. They spend every minute they have giving us love and requesting the same. I have been battling a health condition called Trigeminal Neuralgia. It produces electrical shock like pain that radiates across the entire left side of my face. I experience episodes everyday of the week and have had this condition for the past 8 years. I have had two brain surgeries and am being scheduled for another. Nothing to date has improved this situation.
I began listening to Audio Books as a means of forcing my attention away from the pain. I hyper-focus on the Audio Book content and try to re-direct my awareness. This is partially effective and in the process I have listened to and evaluated over 1,000 Audio Books. I am sure you have guessed by the number of Audio Books that I have listened to that I spend many hours in almost unbearable pain.
During the first 4 years of my condition, the doctor’s were unable to diagnose my condition and a lot of unnecessary medications, fruitless tests and untreated pain was the story of my life. I found that life can very be very meaningless when all you experience is unrelenting and excruciating pain.
I am in the process of rediscovering the meaning of life, the value of a minute in low-level pain, the touch of my wife’s hand and the constant love of friends and family. I hope my writing on Epinions help the readers. I also hope that they might open a new thought, a new view or entertain.
