It has been a wee while since I have been here... I am 26 years old and recently abandoned my life as a nonprofit underling in PA to set up camp in the live, freeze or die state of New Hampshire. Yay for me! I work at a newspaper now, but I doubt y'all will be able to tell, since I prefer to write chatty reviews here. What I would really like is for my mysterious benefactor to show up and whisk me away to write for myself full time (guess I read too much Dickens as a child). In the meantime, I am gettin' my kicks here, writing reviews and hopin' for some comments.
I am a hopeless goofball and a voracious reader. I went to college in Ohio (and crossed the invisible "pop" and "soda" line that divides the state of Pennsylvania), but grew up in NJ (shh! don't tell) and Pennsylvania. Now I live and in the thrivin' metropolis of Newmarket, a cute lil' mill town on the Great Bay..
I am tired of hearing about what a puppy I am, and even SICKER of getting carded and then told how I will miss it when it stops happening.
I love to find comments on my reviews, 'cause then I understand why people are rating me the way they do. Alas! Now that I have been here for a bit, it is becoming clear to me that many of the books I love have not really found their way onto epinions, so it is my goal to get as many reviews up as possible, even if no one bothers to read 'em. The world would be a better place (in my opinion) if people read more Roth, Dorris, Tempest Williams, Yamanaka, Lamott, Brower, O'Brien, (and so on), instead of filling up on Grisham, Steele or that guy who wrote the dreadful Notebook. I am grateful to see that there are folks here who look beyond Oprah's list when finding their reads. Of course, at least more folks are reading 'cause of Oprah.
Ack! Did I mention I ramble?
I don't think I have quite found my stride with epinions yet, and must admit that I am still muddled by "who to trust," where the boundaries lie when someone rates you SR or NR... I will say, I am really confused now, 'cause it seems like my review of an obscure book by Hrabal is my most-read review.... How that happened is completely beyond me, so I guess the epinions crowd is just full of surprises.
Ack! I am afraid this "about me" is bordering on a snoozer of an epic, and will probably edit it a gazillion times or more until I decide I like it.
