I teach first grade and am the mother of 3 children. In other words, I am one busy mother! I hope to someday join a stranded marine mammal network, we have one just "down the road" in Galveston. I've always been interested in marine mammals, growing up in the desert in West Texas made me long for all things tropical. Jacques Cousteau was one of my idols as a child. I always dreamed of being on the Calypso. I am a certified diver, but children, job and life circumstances have kept me from pursuing my most favorite of hobbies. I will once again fly in the depths of the ocean, exploring reefs of coral and exquisite ocean panoramas. I'm just not sure when!
I am also inexplicably fascinated by extremes in weather. Maybe it CAN be explained by my aforementioned desert upbringing. An extreme weather condition in the desert would be a raging dust storm. Yuk! I saw my first tornado last summer. It was framed in our kitchen window, only a couple of miles away. My husband was home so I left the task of worrying to him and ran out to get a closer view. It was absolutely spectacular! Luckily no one was hurt. It spent most of its whirling life out on the bay.
I am interested in writing books for children. My favorites are the ones I use in my classroom. Picture books with tantalizing text and eye catching illustrations. I have a file of hopefuls, and one reject slip from a publisher. Oh well, I've heard that famous authors could paper their walls with the reject slips they've received in their writing careers. Never say never say I!
My newest hobby is Karate (of the American style). My two boys and I are presently proud yellow belts, soon to be proud orange belts (hopefully). It is a fascinating sport. One that enriches the spirit, mind and body. What more can you ask?
Epinions has become one of my favorite places to visit. I am here daily, reading, reading, reading and of course adding my tidbits of experience and knowledge. How wonderful it is to have my editorializing reinforced by such a supportive community! I hope you enjoy my ramblings and maybe learn a little something new along the way. I know that I have!
