I've been drinking beer outside the American mainstream since 1981. It's a passion. I discovered a similar love for bourbon in 1997. I've been lucky enough to make a living writing about them since 1995. I'm managing Editor of Malt Advocate magazine, contributing editor at Ale Street News, and the author of Pennsylvania Breweries (now in a second edition) and New York Breweries, travelguides to the breweries and bars of these states. Otherwise, I have a wife of 13 years (who also loves good beer, which helps) and two children (who don't mind brewery tours), I sing in my church choir and wrangle theology issues with the nuns, and I love taking long road trips; flying bores me.
