About benho
See also www.benho.org

I am a recent over-educated graduate of MIT, with bachelors degrees in Economics, Math, CS, and a masters in EE/CS. Working in New York, before going off to get my PhD in Economics from Stanford this fall, and hopefully use that to save the world, or at least become president of the United States. I'm a free-thinking, libertarian-leaning, wannabe intellectual/economist who refuses to fit into neat labels.

Motto: "A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds" - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Short Bio: Hobgoblin hunter refers to above motto. As for the sacred-cows, I think it was the wild-haired new Japanase PM who was calling for "Reform with no Sacred Cows" I thought that was a very evocative way to put things.

Favorites: My opinions are organized by categories, and I list my favorites at http://epinions.benho.org. Please check some of them out. Thanks.

People I like...
  • Jed Bartlet (He's an Economist yo! like Arroyo and Toledo)
  • Bill Gates
  • John Stossel (+Mahr +O'Reilley +Dennis Miller +rest of TV's growing liberal* posse)
  • Newt Gingrich
  • NPR
  • France
  • kung-fu-tze
  • Mary Cassatt
  • the simpsons
  • Gilbert and Sullivan
Whoops. I got a little off track there.

People I hate...
  • Noam Chomsky
  • Green Peace (ok, ELF is far worse)
  • WTO/FTAA/NAFTA/IMF/... Protesters
  • extremists
  • Dr. Laura
  • Conservative Talk Show hosts
  • (though that's about all, it's rare enough for me to hate anything, even Dr. Laura I am merely bothered by, hate is perhaps too strong)
People I defend though perhaps I shouldn't...
  • Rush, Mao, Dubya, Ayn, Eminem
I like how Ayn Rand can enjoy one-name status

If you can reconcile these lists, then you have won my undying respect

(*: by liberal here I mean classical liberal)
