Now postdoc'ing, with both feet in the life sciences.
But here on Epinions, I seem to maintain the guide to wines under $5., although I'm usually a few bottles behind.
I'm here to keep my writing skills from dulling completely and to help to build a product review website. Information asymmetry is real and unavoidable but we can lessen it by reading and providing fair, well-reasoned assessments of products and services: "reviews", before the rest of the Web redefined that term to mean any statement of opinion. Income share is nice, too.
Sample policy (for manufacturers, distributors, and promoters):
I accept review samples of aquarium supplies, beer, wine, spirits, and home cleaning supplies, and will provide a timely review of items received. Other items, including mechanics' tools and nonfiction books, may also be reviewed, but possibly in a less-than-timely fashion.
Please note that I am not more inclined to give "free" materials a positive review than those I have purchased myself; your product will be reviewed fairly and in accord with good practices I will include a short disclosure at the end of my copy.
Send me an e-mail to make shipping arrangements.
Rating policy (for Epinions contributors):
I rate within Epinions's guidelines but tend to give more Not Helpful and Somewhat Helpful ratings than most other members of this site. If your "review" is not a review but merely states your feeling of a product, I will give it a low rating. If it is not written at a level of quality that would be acceptable at a newspaper, I will give it a low rating. Greengrocers' apostrophes, confusion of "their" and "they're" or "its" and "it's", excessively addressing the reader as "you", use of words like "kinda", multiple exclamation points, and similar gross errors will cause your review to be downrated by a single level. All-caps shouting, writing as though Epinions is a way to contact a manufacturer or merchant, lack of appropriate paragraph breaks, and extensive grammatical or orthographic errors will earn an automatic Not Helpful, as warrants reviews overwhelmed by formatting or writing errors.
Rate old reviews, and mine while you're at it, too!
I'm trying to maintain here a list of products that need vertical rating, either because OT reviews aren't marked as such, because the reviews contain obsolete information, or because they're simply bad. Send me an e-mail with additions.
