About bloodline23

I've been into gadgets since I was a kid, taking apart Atari's and trying to figure out how to rig games on Apple IIe's. Since then I've mainly learned how to "rig stuff" and get the most out of things designed to do the least. Of course, I haven't had to go and cracking open any devices in the last twenty years, but I'm not against doing it if it achieves the right goal!
In my early twenties I started putting together PCs for people and did that for about 5 years before I decided that I didn't enjoy being a builder and a tech support person. Now I mainly focus on keeping my own systems running at tip-top speed and staying abreast of changes in software and hardware that could be useful.
I spend a fair amount of time listening to music (MP3s ripped from my personal collection or downloaded from iTunes) and news via podcasts. A fair amount of my interests then are in music and in ways to make your entertainment experience portable, whether that be movies from a video iPod, hours of avi's on a DVD and a compatible DIVX DVD player, or MP3 CDs for use in MP3 compatible CD players. Again, I try to maximize portability while minimizing loss of quality.
As far as education, I'm a biology person (PhD degree), and oddly enough, that has become a relatively technical discipline! It also forces me to make a lot of fact-based decisions, and as a result I have to have an opinion on everything. Often, the computer tips I figure out at home apply to my work environment and vice versa.
