As I grew up in Texas, I came to believe that Texas was the greatest state in the US. I never thought I'd leave Texas, but after joining the Air Force I did leave.
I was born in the Houston area and lived there until I was ten. That's when we started living in small towns. We moved to Smithville, which is nothing like what you see in 'Hope Floats.' *The building that the little girl goes to school in that movie is the same one I went to 4th and 5th grade. It was condemned a few years later.* We then moved to Blue.
Yes, Blue. Not on most Texas maps. I went to school in Lexington, where I graduated. Then I moved to Austin.
I went to UT in Austin. It was great, except for that school thing. Shortly after that was when I enlisted into the Air Force.
The Air Force showed me what paradise is. It's a little stretch of Gulf Coast called the Emerald Coast. Texas has nothing on this place.
After the Air Force, I came back to Texas to live close to family. It was a little rocky at first, because I had changed while I was away. That took getting used to by all those involved.
I now work at an office supply store and am planning on going back to school, among other things. I'm dating a wonderful girl who has a great head on her shoulders. She keeps me straight.
I enjoy life, make the most of what I have, laugh more and stress less. I think that's what everyone should do.
