As the resident hostess in our circle of friends, I have enjoyed reviewing the many pretty bottles in my liquor cabinet... But most of my time is spent reading, writing and studying. I try to spend my non-studying time with my husband, and my white cat, Phoebe.
If you're writing alcohol reviews, I agree with ladycynic... if you tell me you like it why should I trust your taste? You're a complete stranger :-) But if you give me some background, tasting notes, and an idea of what to do with the stuff, I will rate you well and continue to read your spirit reviews...
I know folks take rating very seriously, so let me fill you in on my philosophy:
VH -If you have "done your homework", that is, written thoroughly about an item, reflected a clear opinion with reasons to back it up, and seem confident about your epinion, you will probably get an VH. I understand most of us make the occasional type-o or grammatical faux pas. I do not downgrade if I do not agree with you, as long as you are well argued.
H- Perhaps your writing is less confident, less organized, or does not support your argument, but you still seem to have an opinion I can understand.
SH- If your epinion is unsubstantiated or boasts significant tech errors (spell check IS provided), well, ces't la vie.
NH - please don't make me use this.
My goal is to respond to those who appreciate my reviews by checking out their sites. I have found a few kindred spirits thus far, and look forward to future fun!
