I am a new media writer, techno-junky, gadget-freak and sceptic specialising in communications and information technology and based in antipodean Adelaide, South Australia.
Ex-friends describe me as opinionated and dogmatic--current friends don't seem to be able to get a word in edgewise, so maybe epinions is the perfect place for me. But for all that, I try to bring a touch of humour and levity to the things that I do and write, whilst also trying to be honest and straight-talking. That's why I use my own name for all my reviews rather than hiding behind a clever moniker.
This 'own name thingy' means that anyone can search for me in Google, be they clients, friends, enemies or relatives, and see just about anything I've ever written--on epinions, on my website, on forums about soccer, religion or badminton. This certainly makes me an open book, as it were, but also leaves me rather exposed, and forces me to temper my opinions with some decree of decorum and etiquette. I daresay this is for the best :-)
Things I hate
Writing about myself, arguments, right-wing political thinking, political correctness, political incorrectness, bad chocolate, bad wine, bad tea, bad tempers, liquorice, and things which defy good sense--like fundamentalist christianity, weird alternative health practices which only work in personal testimonials, new age mumbo-jumbo (though definitely not everything and everyone new age) and the republican party.
Things I like
Words, etymology (not the study of insects which I find icky), good spy or detection novels, silent films, dark chocolate, good red wine, great tea, intense debate, rationality & reason, creativity, good design, good writing, good friends, good manners, compassion, champagne socialism, India, soccer, badminton, classical, baroque and early music, jazz, crooning, guitar rock, fretless basses, and you (if you've got this far!)
