About CPXB

Always the hard bit to say, I guess, but the upshot is I'm basically a geek with a fairly liberal education. I try to be eloquent and I think I succeed from time to time. The rest of it is pretty personal, so I'll leave the rest vague and mysterious. ;}>
How I Rate YOU.
A lot of folks will be clear to tell you that they'll rate you highly if you "make your point" regardless how silly your opinion is. When I first got here, I did that, too. "Hmm, they made an interesting point and it doesn't matter if they're incredibly wrong, I'll still give them an HR or R!"
I've stopped doing that. I've gone back over some of the reviews which deserved NRs and gave them.
If you're wrong, or silly, or stay stupid things I'm gonna give you an NR.
Let's take a neutral example. Let's say you've written a review on a digital camera, the Diginator 666. You love the Diginator 666, saying it's the best thing ever put out by Infernal Industries, Inc., and you eloquently describe your pleasure at using it, the ease of downloading the pictures into your computer, the ease of installation, the quality, etc.
Let's say that you're wrong, or your events are coincidence and not generally applicable. Let's say you lucked out and got the one good Diginator 666. Should I give you an HR because you were eloquence, in defiance of the truth? Should I say, "Hey, this was a good review, even if it is totally in error!"
Yes, I could write my own review of the Diginator 666, but if I'm not as eloquent as the positive review of the camera my own review of the Diginator 666 will be ignored in preference to the well written review! The only rational way I can get my point across to a would-be consumer who is gonna spend their hard earned dollars on a digital camera is to give the positive review a NR. Furthermore, if I give your review a HR folks who come by will think that I support your conclusions about the Diginator 666 when I emphatically do not.
In short, my view of the truth counts when reading your reviews.
If you tell what I think the truth is, I'll give you good marks. If you say things I think is ridiculous, I won't. Particularly because these are mostly product endorsements -- so if you say something is good when it's not, I feel morally obliged to express my discontent with your review by marking it poorly.
Also, I am human. If you write a funny review, or something extraordinary, I might give you high marks because I'm amused even if I disagree with you. Likewise, even if I agree with you but you express yourself foolishly I might give you poor marks.
Is this a logical system? Nope. But it is my opinion.
My consolation prize is if I don't like your review, I'll tell you why. Not much, but it's all I'll give. ;}>
