About dayvid
I was homeschooled through high school, and during that time I also taught myself how to program in Perl and Visual Basic, and I gained familiarity with HTML (on an expert level, although it is not a programming language and I dislike using it) as well as JavaScript (at a read-but-not-write level). I have operated some large websites in the past, primarily focusing on the behind-the-scenes programming of interactivity using Perl and mySQL databases to implement user registration and other customization. I am capable of graphical web design including hand-coding HTML, although I dislike using HTML due to it's tediousness and lack of ability to *do* anything other than specify formatting (hence the reason I do not call it a "programming language" proper). It is, after all, the Hyper-Text MARKUP LANGUAGE. But enough about HTML. As I write this (July 5th, 2002) I am nearly 18 years old (will be in August), and I am the IT and Web Department of a start-up company that allows US citizens to mail-order their prescription drugs at substantial discounts from Canada (rather than the currently-popular bus-trips). The company is unique in this area, in that customer contact is handled offline and promoted by our independent field agents, thus reaching the majority of the senior market, over similar online-only competitors. This benefit also creates much more work on the programming side to allow for data input and management, on both the agent and customer side, and I am currently creating a robust MS Access database to handle most business functions, in addition to maintaining agent-access-only website for marketing materials and information. I have many interests in technology, and I am also a Christian actively involved in my church, where I am a volunteer that runs both the lighting and the words-projector on Sundays. I am also actively involved in learning to shoot and edit digital video, which I'm learning from the evangelism pastor at my church, who has had experience with major television networks including ESPN. Several months ago, the church paid for that pastor and me to travel across the country to Irvine, California to take ProMax's Advanced Final Cut Pro editing seminar, which was amazing (the seminar and California's weather!). My church has also started recording live praise & worship CD's, the first of which was last year and the second of which is coming up in a month. I do everything I possibly can behind the scenes, including setup/teardown, videorecording, lighting, projection, and anything else I can help with. When I have free time, I like to write software and scripts that I distribute from my website, scriptek.com. I also use this site to see domain names, which are a hobby of mine (I have at least 15 domain names registered to me personally, and 15 more that I am involved with in some way). I bought my first domain back when InterNIC was the monopoly and charged $100 for the first two years...man have times (and prices) changed! I enjoy reading and providing others with the benefits of my prior experience, so while I may review a small number of items through epinions due to time constraints, I will attempt to provide exemplary reviews where I do write them.
