How I view things
I tend to look at the technical side of products, wanting to know what makes them tick; whether they will last or not.
If a product is clearly designed for the home user, I will not berate it; expecting it to perform on the same level as professional office equipment, though, I will mention when it starts to cross that line and perform like one (on the positive side).
Current Home Project
My current home project is conversion of pictures to digital imagery (photography). This means I have years upon years of photos to go through; to scan in for editing. You might want to take a look at my other reviews for the programs/equipment I am using to do this. It might save you some time and hassle.
About My current home project.
Bear in mind, when it comes to this latest home project, I am currently using a desktop with 450Mhz Pentium III processor with only 64 meg RAM. (This will be of interest to those who have not upgraded their computer in that last 4-5 years). I am constrained to remain with only 64 meg RAM due to a cad program that I am using at home that will not run with a memory upgrade.
Keep in mind that digital photo editing involves VERY LARGE files, typically 1,000Kb up to 104,000 Kb. depending on how many pictures you scan in at one time and the scan resolution setting (how "fine" a scan you desire). One time and one time only, did I scan in an entire 8-1/2 x 11 bed of pictures for editing. Using the H.P. 2210 multipurpose printer/fax/copier/scanner. The resulting file was 104,000Kb. It took about 40 minutes to scan in at 1200 dpi resolution and well over an hour for MGI Photosuite -Platinum to even bring the photos up. This is simply too much at one time. Keep your scans to 1-2 at a time. Newer 2 Ghz / 256 meg Ram computers will help but still, don't try to "byte" off more than you can chew at one time.
