I joined Epinions simply because I enjoy watching films. And on the subject of films, I personally divide them up into three general categories: the good, the bad, and the cheesy. Ive already dedicated my free ISP webpage at Mindspring/EarthLink to a humorous review site for one of my all-time favorite TV shows, Mystery Science Theater 3000, which for the most part takes care of the cheesy side of the spectrum. So this account at Epinions will be (mostly) devoted to the other two types of movies: good ones and bad ones.
My rating of a movie is done on three different scales:
(1) - The five-star Epinions scale, which I interpret as Recommended (5 = Excellent, 4 = Good, 3 = Okay) or Not Recommended (2 = Weak, 1 = Awful)
(2) - A more accurate A-through-F Detailed Grading Scale (which translates stars into these ranges:
Recommended: 5 = A to A-, 4 = B to B-, 3 = C to C
Not Recommended: 2 = C- to D , 1 = D to F)
(3) - And a final listing of the type of movie it is, be it a [DRAMA], [HORROR], [FILM NOIR], etc., so as to quantify how the movie is being compared to other films, because comparing movies of different genres can be an Apples-and-Oranges exercise.
Im also into Home Theater and outside of movie theaters, prefer to watch films on DVD in their OAR with the best soundtrack available (5.1 surround Dolby Digital or DTS for most newer releases, but usually plain Mono for older films) because I think the quality of the presentation of a film greatly influences a persons opinion
make that epinion, of it. So if the films presentation is of high quality, then any perceived flaws will be of the film itself. Therefore, in film reviews I write from watching DVDs, Ill post comments on any important aspects and special features of the DVD release that I thought worth mentioning.
So thanks for reading this far down and I hope you enjoy my reviews as much as I enjoy writing them. -Don
