About dtv_engineer

A "techie" from way back... started in radio and television engineering when videotape meant reels two inches thick and the diameter of a pizza, and the player was the size of two refrigerators side by side. (Now refrigerators have televisions built in, which just seems wrong somehow!) Made the transition from newsfilm to 3/4" cassettes to 1/2" Beta-SP cassettes to 1/4" DVC-Pro cassettes to SDHC memory cards... for the first time ever, no moving parts!

Nowadays I mostly design broadcast facilities and custom equipment, write software to make equipment work together, and take on other special projects for a regional group of stations.

Hobbies include photography (especially old-school darkroom work), antique cartography, and music.

You will also find me regularly haunting the Electronics category here: it's a great place to meet interesting people and to learn things I didn't know. It's especially gratifying to help new members get their bearings, and see them become good reviewers and friends in the Epinions community!
