I'm a full-time writer (McCall's,Palo Alto Review, Northeast, and others) and spiritual director who gives retreats and workshops for families and individuals. I live on a small farm in southeastern Connecticut with my husband, two married children and their spouses, and seven grandchildren, two calves, three dogs, three cats and four kittens--and an occasional partridge in a pear tree. (We have those, too!) I have a degree in English and one in Pastoral Ministry, and worked for years as a director of faith formation. Mostly, I’ve learned to keep looking at life with wonder, through the eyes of a child—my grandchildren and family have taught me so much. When I'm not guiding fictional characters through their journeys in short stories and novels, I'm taking real-life journeys of my own with my husband and often, one or two of my grandchildren—to places like Mexico, Canada, Italy, Ireland, England, Spain and Germany. In between times I tend a huge vegetable garden and smaller flower gardens, enjoy gourmet cooking, and write my food column as I have for five years. Painting, photographing and video-recording food and the places I visit is a growing hobby —though it’s the great books I read, the movies and plays I attend that happily keep me up late. I count on epinions' members to guide my reading, traveling and viewing choices, and gladly share my own for others to help their decision-making.
