ABOUT MY REVIEWS AND RATINGS:
I try and be honest, and I try to be fair. Even if something is not my taste, say wheat gluten, I am open enough to know when it is tasty and prepared well. I have experienced just about any type of cuisine you can think of, from California to Thai to Ethiopian. I am always trying new foods, and I think I have a pretty decent palate. I have had delicious food for $3.25 in the Mission in San Francisco, and I have had delicious food for $300. This leads me to my next point.
Some people use this 1-5 star scale very strictly. For me, you have to use the scale in context. If I rate a burrito joint 5 stars, and Chez Panisse 5 stars, it doesn't mean that the carne asada in the burrito is the same quality of meat Chez Panisse uses, nor does it mean the blend of flavors are equal. No, what it means is that compared to all other burrito places, I think a 5 star place is the best out of all of them. A 5 star rating for Chez Panisse means that compared to all other fancy California cuisine restaurants, it is a cut above all the rest.
Also, it is difficult to be "Superb." I don't use that rating unless it is deserving of it. If you think my rating is in error, let me know, and I will justify it.
MY TASTES IN FOOD:
I have grown up in California, but have traveled all over the US and Canada, part of Mexico, around South America and China. That said, my tastes lean towards what California is known for: the absolute freshest ingredients, especially vegetables. Each ingredient must be fresh, and not overcooked. French food, while delicious, is not my favorite because of all the heavy sauces. When done in moderation though, it can be astounding. My favorite food is probably Thai. Thai is very fresh, flexible, pretty healthy, and above all, very intricate in flavoring.
I am not a vegetarian nor a vegan, although I have eaten that cuisine as well. I am a meat person. I love beef, especially a rare New York steak. Meat should be as rare as allowable. I will not eat overcooked meat. I am also a very big lamb and duck fan.
In addition to meat, I like fish. The only other seafood I really enjoy is shrimp, but I love fish. My favorite is salmon (the heartiest fish, the only one you "should" drink with red wine), bass and tuna. My dad grills a mean salmon.
WHAT I LOOK FOR IN TECHNOLOGY:
There are two things that are important to me when it comes to technology, whether it be hardware, software or services: SPEED and EASE OF USE. If you are slow and bloated, you will be uninstalled. If you are too cluttered and overblown, I will skip over you. Don't waste my time.
I like things that do the job they're supposed to, do it well, and do it quickly. I would rather have 5 tiny, fast apps do 5 tasks as opposed to 1 bloated, slow program do all 5. This may seem like a bother, "Why waste time finding 5 apps when 1 can do it all?" If you are organized, getting things set up and integrated is easy. Once you are equipped, you will be more efficient in the long run.
