About Epicure
|
My Philosophy on Food: Eating is a pleasure that does not discriminate. It is for all peoples, for all ages, for all times. Whether rich or poor, young or old, man or woman, food is the great equalizer. Great food can be found in the rustic kitchens of grandmothers, the marketplaces of boisterous villages, the street stands of polluted city alleyways, the family-owned trattorias and bistros, and the glamorous world-class restaurants. Food defines cultures, and provides the one thread of continuity that binds all cultures together. Eating is not just about the consumption of food - it is about the creation of stories and the solidification of traditions. Every dish has a story to tell. Every restaurant is a blank canvas. Food, not money, is the universal language, which shall survive and endure and be lovingly passed on from generation to generation.
My Ever-Expanding World of Food
Okay, I'm not ashamed to admit it. My world revolves around food. When I wake up in the morning, I smile as I think of spooning ripe raspberry preserves on a freshly baked baguette. Around 10 a.m. (usually the time when my stomach finishes digesting breakfast), I picture those famous New York thin-crusted pizza slices with roma tomatoes and buffalo mozzarella, and suddenly I'm counting the minutes 'til lunch. Around 3 p.m. (usually the time when my stomach finishes digesting lunch), my thoughts fluctuate between proper English tea with scones and clotted cream, and decadent French tea with financiers and madeleines. In the early evening, I pause in the hallway outside our door to inhale the aromas wafting from our apartment (and every other apartment on our floor), trying to guess what my talented husband has prepared for dinner.(Mr. Epicure is a fabulous cook). And as I fall asleep at night, I dream that I am a judge at the annual World Pastry Cup Competition.
My life may not be perfect, but it is quite fulfilling from an epicurean perspective. Shall I share a little of it with you?
