About grouched

Ooooh...wrote here about, what seven years ago? Account is still here! Hrm, too bad my eroyalities didn't accrue for the past three-quarters of a decade....
[Here is what my profile said upon logging in today--it's OLD]
School is in session, and I'm teaching 7th grade science yet again. My class is physical science oriented, with emphasis placed on hands-on activities and "cookbook" experiments, demonstrations, and a lot of writing. Some students attempt to remind me that I dont teach English anymore, but I remind them that silly categories like "science" or "English" cant pigeon-hole me. I teach a world-view, false-perception blasting, creatively intensive course in the fields of science, social science, logic and problem solving, and the communication of ideas.
Well, in theory. Actually, Im quite happy when they dont fall asleep.
This year, we're working on an exciting project called "Jupiter Quest" where my students actually get to control a 800,000 pound, 9-story tall, 16 million dollar radio telescope (something that looks like a VERY large version of your backyward sattelite dish). The data we gather will be used by NASA in their Cassini flyby of Jupiter! This is really great stuff. Go read about the radio telescope and the project surronding it: GAVRT
As for as my education, I graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi. I have a B.S. in Literature. When I found out that I could get the "B.S.," I knew I had to, just to be a smart alec. My minor is in mathematics.
Eventually, I plan to go back to college to get my M.A. in creative writing. Keep your fingers crossed for me.
