If you are wondering how I read and rate . . .
What I read varies on the moment. I do actively use this site to help with some major purchasing decisions, such as when I bought my Sony Mavica or my Saturn. So, I've been known to search for specific opinions. When I'm bored, I'll read the Just In page. But mostly, I'll read reviews of people who review me. I found a lot of my favorite reviewers that way.
I rate based on the quality of writing if it is an editorial. For products, I look at the description -- does this review answer my questions, for example. I also look at the writing. A poorly written (grammatically) review has to have outstanding description to get an HR or even an R from me.
