I am 52 years old. I lived for almost fifteen years in Europe and Japan. I have also lived in the desert southwest of the USA, Los Angeles, CA., and in New Orleans, LA. Currently I live in Louisville, KY.
My interests are, photography and writing, music, movies/film, history, hiking & the outdoors, reading, and playing with the computer. I am married (for 27 years) and have no children (but we do have three Japanese cats and a very large "cajun" dog) I enjoy cooking (my wife loves gardening...which provides a ready supply of herbs and vegetables for my use) and we both love to eat. I have been serious about photography for more than twenty years. I have over two hundred photographs (and about 125 articles) published.
My images have won prizes in Europe, Japan, and the USA. My photographic work has been featured in seven exhibitions in Germany, Japan, and the USA. I have taken workshops with Beaumont Newhall, Galen Rowell, Bill Thomas, Bill Luster, and others. I have taught photography workshops on a variety of photographic topics in Japan and the USA. My photographic hero's are Henri Cartier-Bresson, Eliot Porter, Ernst Haas, Wynn Bullock, Beaumont Newhall, Man Ray, Johnny Hyams, Julia Sims, W. Eugene Smith, Greg Guirard, Chuck Theodore, Yasuhiro Ishimoto, Frank Oberle, Minor White, and John Brackenbury.
I am a generalist photographically. I enjoy shooting "street" images, macro photography, and the intimate landscape. I use Nikon equipment for my color slide photography, and a couple of old Rolleiflex SL35's (with a selection of Zeiss primes) for my B&W photography. I am working (slowly) to get a site up that will feature a selection of my photographs.
I have been in love with writing since I was in High School (I wrote a weekly column for the school paper) I love Mystery/Suspense/Thriller novels by writers like Dashiell Hammett, Raymond Chandler, James W. Hall, Jim Thompson, John D. MacDonald, Ross MacDonald, Randy Wayne White, Eric Ambler, and Michael Connelly. I have been writing travel/cultural pieces, book, and restaurant reviews since 1993, and Camera/Electronics product reviews since 1994. My literary hero's are Robert D. Kaplan, Eric Hansen, Frederick Turner, Bruce Chatwin, Peter Matthiessen and Pico Iyer. I have written for several Government/Military publications, to include the Kadena "Shogun" 1994 "Best in the Department of Defense".
