About indigospot
|
My first passions are drawing and painting; I've been making art since I was three, and I'll never quit. I make mostly fantasy and sci-fi themed work, using characters of my own invention. I grew up in Oakland, and the presence of so many cultures here has been an influence in my work. I'm mostly "self-taught," which just means lots of practice, combined with a few classes, observation and a lot of "how-to" books.
I never really grew out of toys, especially since I would've like to have had some of the newer toys when I was a kid. I continue to collect Lego Toys, but Barbie dolls have been the primary focus of my collecting efforts for the past few years. Collecting Barbies are like eating Lay's chips--you can't own just one! My reviews thus far have focused solely on Barbie, but I hope to review other products in the future.
UPDATE 12/20/04: I apologize again for not having written any new reviews in almost a year (!). Minor events in my life have kept me away from here; I don't have the time to write as frequently as I would. My doll buying habits have greatly changed: Except for the Collectibles, "My Scene," and "Cali Girl" lines, I've shifted away from Barbies to Bratz (the Barbie Mainline was awful in 2003). Furthermore, I typically don't review dolls unless I can take them out of the box, and examine them firsthand. This seriously limits my ability to review most of my collectible Barbies. I hope to write some new reviews in '05, but in the meantime, please see my reviews under the name "westoakland" at Amazon.com!
UPDATE 5/10/05: It's been that long? I've finally written a new review! I sort of pick up where I left off, with a review of a My Scene doll released in late '03. Hopefully more will follow--enjoy!
