About janesbit1

After growing up in central Illinois and spending two years in Michigan after graduating from the University of Illinois, I sought warmer temperatures in northern Georgia for five years.

Finding the climate a bit chilly, I took off for the West and new adventures.

I ended up on a small town on the western part of the Navajo reservation. Even though the climate was pretty cold in the winter (even in Arizona), the people were warm and friendly, so I settled there and taught English at Tuba City High School for over 20 years. I was probably most well known there for coaching the high school chess team to four state championships and numerous other honors. I also hosted a radio program for a few years that specialized in oldies and blues.

Additionally I became well known in the community for being an integral member of a group that recalled the entire school board and forced the school superintendent to resign. I then fought for three years to institute a film appreciation course, and finally taught it for four years before ticking off a school administrator.

I retired from teaching early and have settled in the dry heat of Phoenix to work as a technical writer and watch my beloved Diamondbacks. Some writer friends launched a media review site, and I have started my own movie review site at OldSchoolReviews.com and am a member of the Online Film Critics Society.

I do have high standards for rating reviews (especially on movies), so this How I Rate Reviews article may explain a rating I gave you. Please feel free to email me if you have questions.
