I was born and raised on Staten Island (the fifth and forgotten borough of NYC)...At this moment I'm a firefighter working in the South Bronx. I have an M.S. Ed and worked as a Program Coordinator with the physically and mentally disabled before coming to the Fire Dept.
I spend most of my free time writing, running or working around a drafty, old lake-style house. I'm learning a little about stone wall repair, re-finishing floors and other such charming and time consuming tasks.

RATING
I never rate an opinion piece based on whether I agree or disagree with the content. Original and thought provoking pieces are the ones I appreciate most.
In product reviews, I note, but rarely detract from ratings, based on grammatical imperfections...unless they really make the piece difficult to get through. Usually I'll leave a short comment or send an e-mail with any suggestions or nits I might have.
I consider Epinions more of a common forum, where people share product information and views, not a writer's group, or workshop, so I don't hold people to those standards, especially on product reviews. I'm slightly more picky about style and substance when it comes to opinion pieces.
I'd give an informative product review with numerous grammatical errors an R, but an informative but poorly written opinion piece would get an SR at best.
Why?
Because, in my view, a "plain spoken," even a poorly worded product review can still impart vital information, but a poorly crafted opinion piece is a thumb to the eye of the views it claims to support.
