About jodonoghue

I'm a systems engineer in telecomms systems by training, choice and experience. However, I have always been interested in travel, other countries and cultures, and generally trying to obtain a broader perspective on life than is possible by being a "normal" (allegedly) middle-class white male.
As well as the UK, I have lived and worked in France, Germany, Sweden and (briefly) the United States, and speak French well, and German remarkably poorly (although can order up to 1,000,000 beers if required)
I've travelled pretty extensively in Western Europe, New Zealand, Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore and a little in the United States (mostly Eastern coast and the Rocky Mountains). As of writing, I am planning a four month trip to South-East Asia, which will probably take in Sumatra, Northern Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, the Philippines and Eastern Malaysia.
I found this site while getting planning info together, and thought it only fair to try to contribute something of my own experience back to the community.
