I used to work for guys like that until I escaped to make my living on the Internet. It's worked out so well that I am now unable to do anything useful before noon and have no ambitions or even attitude that would be of interest to an employer. Sadly, before coming to this state of affairs, I spend decades in the high tension world of corporations, large and small. My career has followed roughly this flowchart:
(1) Doing what I darn well please -> (2) disc jockey -> (3) broadcast engineer -> (4) electronics design engineer -> (5) engineering manager -> (6) doing what I darn well please.
I highly recommend steps 1 & 6.
