About juliad123

I'm a 22 year old living in San Francisco, CA. I just graduated from the University of Washington in March, 2000 and moved to San Francisco soon after to start work and get some sun. I grew up south of Seattle, WA.
I graduated with an English Literature degree, but I work as a web producer for a Silicon Valley startup (go figure), doing mostly HTML and JavaScript production, as well as personal design work on the side (when there's time!). I hope to one day have my own free lance design business so I can work my own hours and be my own boss.
I love San Francisco, and the Bay area in general...and living here is great so far. Its an ideal place to live for someone just starting out after college. It's great waking up everyday and being repeatedly awed by the beauty of the city! Its a really amazing place. But I will be realistic...the Bay Area does have some downsides. I don't want to paint too rosy of a picture because then even more people will want to move here! So, on the flipside...traffic is an absolute nightmare. I spend about 20% of my day commuting. I have grown to loathe brake lights and certain always-slow sections of Highway 101. I have pleasant dreams about life in the future when I won't have to commute. People think "Oh, It couldn't be that bad"...imagine spending over an hour trying to drive 15 miles each way each day. It really sucks. Also, housing is really, really, really, really expensive (read--overpriced). I went from paying $250 a month for rent in college, to paying almost $1,000/month for a tiny room with no closet. And I have a good deal! There are a lot of people here with A LOT of money...which can also get pretty annoying. Well, enough bitching. Its a really, really fun city but it costs to live here.
Check out my opinions...there aren't many, but I'm working on that. This thing is addicting!
Some of my Book recommendations are not on the Books list. They are: *America Dreams by Sapphire *Cats Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut *anything by Jamaica Kincaid *Where the Heart Is (the book is good, the movie sucks!) *The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat by Oliver Sacks *Frankestein by Mary Shelly *Native Son by Wright
and too many more to list....
